EXPENSIVE TOURIST ACTIVITIES IN UGANDA AND RWANDA
It’s true that the following activities are expensive but worth it!!
Gorilla trekking – In Rwanda, Gorilla trekking is the most expensive tourist activity at US$ 1500 per permit. Rwanda Gorilla trekking is conducted every day in Volcanoes National Park. Each gorilla group is met by a maximum of eight people who consider Gorilla trekking a life time event!! Previously, the costs of Rwanda Gorilla permit US$ 750 until 2017 when Rwanda Development Board (RDB) decided to double the prices. The increased cost of Rwanda Gorilla permit attracted negative comments but still people do visit Volcanoes National park for Gorilla trekking.
In Uganda, the cost of Gorilla permit cost US$ 600 but still, thousands of trekkers do visit Gorilla in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National park. Uganda protects the largest number of Gorillas compared to Rwanda. Uganda has four sectors in Bwindi Impenetrable National park including Nkuringo, Rushaga, Buhoma and Ruhija but each sector receives visitors on daily basis. There is also one Gorilla group in Mgahinga National Park, it is called Nyakagezi.
Gorilla Habituation – It’s only in Uganda where Gorilla habituation is conducted in Rushaga sector. The cost of Uganda Gorilla Habituation goes to US$ 1500. Compared to Gorilla trekking, Gorilla habituation allows visitors to stay four hours with Gorillas in their natural environment. It should also be noted that Gorilla habituation is only conducted in Rushaga sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Chimpanzee trekking- It’s the second sought after Gorilla trekking. In Uganda chimpanzee trekking cost up to US$ 150 while in Rwanda, it cost US$ 90 per person in Nyungwe National park. Uganda chimp trekking sites include Kibale National park, Budongo Forest of Murchison Falls National Park, Toro- Semliki game reserve, Kyambura Gorge of Queen Elizabeth National Park and Kalinzu Forest near Queen Elizabeth national Park. Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale National Park cost US$ 150 per person while other destinations cost US$ 50 per person.
