Gorilla Trekking in Uganda
Uganda is situated in East Africa. It is bordered by Kenya in the East, Tanzania in the south, Democratic Republic of Congo (D.R.C) in the west. It is justified that Uganda is the pearl of Africa due to the beautiful relief, wonderful drainage features, sweet sun shine, amazing wildlife and so on.
All in all Uganda is gifted by Mountain Gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable national Park and Mgahinga National parks. Gorilla tourism is the major foreign exchange earner according to annual tourism reports- Currently, Uganda Gorilla permit is sold at US$ 600 each, cheaper than Rwanda permits which are sold at US$ 750. Uganda wildlife Authority is the major Authorized agent for selling Uganda Gorilla permits and advanced booking is the best option because Gorilla permits are on a very high demand throughout the year.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park hosts more than ten habituated gorilla groups with four gorilla trekking centres namely; Nkuringo, Buhoma, Rushaga and Ruhija. It should be noted that Mgahinga forest National Park only has one Gorilla group known as Nyakagezi gorilla group which is mobile and unpredictable to track due to its mobility from Uganda to democratic Republic of Congo and some times to Rwanda but return to Uganda after some times. Tourists who need to trek Nyakagezi Gorilla group should first consult the Authority about the presence of the gorilla group before actual visit.
From Kampala, tourists need to endure long distance of more than 500 Kilometers to Bwindi and Mgahinga however, the thrill of encountering the gorillas in their natural habitat erases the difficulty you went through in the process of meeting them.
Only an hour is allowed to stay in the presence of mountain Gorilla both in Uganda and Rwanda, a maximum of eight people are allowed to visit each gorilla group to avoid stressing them and above all group tours are more enjoyable.
