Kibale, the best Chimpanzee Trekking Forest, Uganda
In Uganda, chimpanzee trekking can be conducted in Budingo Forest situated on the way to Murchison National Park from Kampala via Masindi district, in Kyambura Gorge of Queen Elizabeth National Park. The problem with two chimpanzee trekking destinations mentioned is that, meeting chimps is some times unpredictable however, it is assured in Kibale forest national park hence the best chimp trekking destination in Uganda. Being guaranteed chimp trekking, each person is charged US$ 150 per person which is higher than that of Budongo forest and Kaymbura Gorge.
Kibale forest is one of unspoiled tropical forest in Uganda situated in kabalore district of western Uganda. It is a proximately 5-6 hours drive from Kampala- Uganda’s capital city. Kibale is one of the last remaining expanses to contain both lowland and montane forests. In East Africa, it sustains the last significant expanse of pre-montane forest. The park was gazetted in 1932 and formally established in 1993 to protect a large area of forest previously managed as a logged Forest Reserve.
Kibale forest national park hosts a variety of amazing chimpanzee, unique tree species, butter flies, birds, tree climbing plants, canopy trees among others. This is where guided night forest walks are conducted to see nocturnal animals like Bush babies, Hyenas, Leopards among others. It should be noted that nocturnal walks in Kibale is charged US$ 20 per person.
