Potto in Nyungwe Forest, Rwanda
It is the only species in genus Perodicticus. Pottos are in primate species but rarely seen but people just run into them by surprise.
Pottos are sub divided into two; golden and false pottos. Although it has been suggested that the differences that separate the false potto from the potto are a result of an anomalous specimen being used as the holotype which may have been a potto.
The potto grows to a length of 30 to 39 cm, with a short (3 to 10 cm) tail, and its weight varies from 600 to 1,600 grams (21 to 56 oz). The potto moves slowly and carefully, always gripping a branch with at least two limbs. It is also quiet and avoids predators using crypsis. While searching for other primates like chimpanzees, colobus monkeys and so on – visitors can surprisingly seen the pottos.
