Potto in Rwanda
POTTO IN RWANDA- NYUNGWE FOREST NATIONAL PARK
They are grey brown in color with a wooly fur. The hands and toes are shaped in such a manner that they can grasp branches firmly without falling. The neck has sharp point which they use to protect themselves.
They are sub divided into 2 groups; golden and false pottos. It is not easy to see pottos during day since they are night moving animals (Nocturnal). Therefore, if you take nocturnal walk in Nyungwe Forest, you may find them by luck. In Rwanda, pottos can also be found in Akagera National Park.
Pottos are part of 4 nocturnal primates found in Nyungwe Forest. Pottos are closely related to the Lemurs of Madagascar. They are small growing to 30 to 40 centimeters, it has a distinct odor that some liken to curry.
The potto moves slowly and carefully, they always gripping a branch with at least two limbs. It is also quiet and a void predators using crypsis. While searching for other primates like chimpanzees, colobus monkeys and so on – visitors can surprisingly meet the pottos.
