Self Drive Tour to Nyungwe National Park Rwanda
Nyungwe National park is located in south western part of Rwanda, about 5 hours drive from Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda. This is the largest mountain forest in East and Central Africa. The forest inhabits about 13 primate species that include chimpanzees, colobus monkeys, red tailed monkeys, galagoes, grey cheeked mangabeys, Baboons, golden monkeys, and over 300 bird species.
Chimpanzee tracking is the most popular tourist activity in Nyungwe national park with 2 habituated groups. There are also large troops of Black and white colobus monkeys that range between 400 to 500 individuals.

Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park
Pick up from your hotel in Kigali at 09:00 hours after breakfast, or from Kigali International Airport on arrival (must arrive before mid day), transfer by road to western direction (guided or self drive) to Nyungwe national park with enroute visit to Nyanza King’s Palace, Murambi technical school (genocide museum) and Butare museum. Lunch in Butare town, arrive to your lodge for dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Forest Lodge or Gisakura Guest House.
Day 2: Chimps tracking in the morning, after noon canopy walk.
Early breakfast (04:00 hrs), followed by transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing about chimpanzee tracking activity, drive to the base where the trek starts from. Its very adventurous and take half day. Retire for lunch at the lodge, relax and take a canopy walk excursion, dinner and overnight stay as on DAY 1.
Day 3: Forest walk to the water falls, afternoon colobus monkeys tracking
A relaxed morning, breakfast and take a forest walk to the water falls, then go for Colobus monkey tracking in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay as on Day 1.
Day 4: Drive back to Kigali where the tour ends.
Breakfast and embark on your journey back to Kigali. If you missed the museums on Day 1, we can visit them on the last day. This marks the end of your escorted or self drive safari to Nyungwe National Park in Rwanda.
