Serengeti National Park in Tanzania –Wildlife Tour
Serengeti National Park is one of the most famous conservation areas in Tanzania and East Africa at Large, covering an area of 14,763 sq km (5,700 sq miles). The park is situated 335km (208 miles) from Arusha, stretching north to Kenya and bordering Lake Victoria to the west.
Visitors can reach the park by Charter flights from Arusha, Lake Manyara and Mwanza. Drive from Arusha, Lake Manyara, Tarangire or Ngorongoro Crater. As far as game driving is concerned, visitors need to deal with local tour operators to guide them through out their game drives.
With more than two million wildebeest, half a million Thomson's gazelle, and a quarter of a million zebra, it has the greatest concentration of plains game in the world.
Its unique combination of diverse habitats enables it to support more than 30 species of large Herbivores and nearly 500 species of birds. As such, it offers the most complex and least disturbed ecosystem on earth. Expect to encounter animals like lions, leopards, elephants, rhino, hippo, giraffes, baboons and wild dogs
Its landscape, which was originally formed by volcanic activity, has been sculptured by the concerted action of wind, rain, and sun to form kopjes. In 1981, the park was internationally recognized as part of Serengeti-Ngorongoro Biosphere Reserve (with the adjoining Maswa Game Reserve) under UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Program. The park has also been inscribed as a world heritage site.
Migration: This is the place where wildlife migration (Wildebeest Migration in Serengeti) occurs each year. It constitutes the most breathtaking event in the animal kingdom ever known to humans. As the dry season intensifies, the herds drift out towards west, one group to the north to Lake Victoria and the other to the northeast for permanent waters of Mara Rivers and tributaries

Best time to visit Serengeti National Park:
The park is more interesting during wildebeest migration period: December –July while predators are sighted best in June-October.
The wildebeest and zebra moreover form the star cast of a unique spectacular - the annual Serengeti migration. Serengeti has the highest concentration of large mammals on this planet and its famous known for its 2,500 Lions the largest concentration found anywhere. The park also has over 518 identified bird species where some of them are Eurasian migrants who are present in the European winter months from October to April.
